Dinner at Etoile at Domaine Chandon

I’m back from my trip to Mexico. It was mostly good, but a few bumps, which I will tell you all about when I blog about it. AFTER I finish my October San Francisco/Napa trip AND my New Year’s San Francisco/Napa trip.

Okay, back to the October trip.

We make our way down the narrow and windy mountain road and return to Andaz. Zung naps and I rest (i.e. lay down while I play with my iPad – I admit to being a Candy Crush addict). We get ready for dinner. I know they have a wine tasting down in the lobby at 5:30 but I don’t want anymore wine between the days wines and dinner’s wines. I hate letting an amenity like that pass by though.

I wear my new shoes.

We love the fireplace and have it on all the time.

We call for the car and drive to Domaine Chandon in Yountville. This winery is one of the few in the area that has a full service restaurant. We park, and it is a good thing the shoes are comfortable, because it is quite a hike from the parking area to the restaurant. It is dark, but I can tell the property is beautiful and wish I could see it during the day.

We order the tasting menu with wine pairing. I didn’t write any notes about what the different courses were, but looking at the pictures, I’m thinking maybe there were two options and we each had a different menu. At any rate, the food was amazing and the wines were really good as well and the pours were very generous. I paced myself a little better than I did at Quince.

I have the Waygu beef as my entree and it was one of the most decadent pieces of beef I have ever eaten. It is richly marbled and my arteries clenched up just looking at it. It is delicious, although I’m pretty sure you should only eat something like that once in your life.

It was a lot of food and wine. The service was great. I’d definitely recommend this restaurant. They serve lunch as well.

We return to the hotel, where I take a bath and finish the wine from last night. I love this bathtub!

The bed is comfortable, but I miss my memory foam pillow at home. A half-dozen down or down alternative pillows just aren’t as comfortable as my one memory foam pillow. I know, I know, first world problems.

I posted today (Saturday) instead of tomorrow because there’s this big football game tomorrow. You might have heard about it, the Broncos vs the Seahawks in the Superbowl 2014. Yesterday was the Asian New Year and it is the year of the horse. Broncos are horses. Coincidence? I think not. Go Broncos!
