Food Porn from Boucherie

First night’s dinner res is at Boucherie. They say they serve “Contemporary New Orleans Cuisine”. In retrospect, this was the best dinner. Not to say the other dinners were not great. Just on that scale of pre-orgasmic to orgasmic, this was orgasmic.

We dressed and went down to the lobby to wait for the boys. We were probably overdressed, but that’s okay. I was also dressing for my costume later. Some people came off the elevator, into the lobby, in costumes. WOW! They really did it up, and I started to worry a little. People take this Halloween in NOLA thing seriously.

The bell boy got us a taxi. It took longer than I expected to get to the restaurant. It was out by Tulane and we drove through the Garden District to get there. Beautiful, massive homes in the Garden District. Many of them decorated for Halloween. In the French Quarter we passed a few people dressed up. As we got into the neighborhoods we saw the kids dressed up. We were driving all the hell over the place and we were all wondering where this place was. It was tucked into a little neighborhood. It was a hell of a drive getting there, but, ohhh so worth it.

Our waiter was Matt, from North Carolina.

We started out with an Amuse Bouche. It had beans in it, so I passed. I apologize for the fuzzy picture. The guys said it was good.

We ordered drinks.

I had my first Pimm’s Cup. It was made with muddled cucumber. Well, if you’ve read my blog before, you know I love cucumber drinks. It was a definite hit.

Patrick and Zung had Dark and Stormy’s, rum and ginger beer.

Patrick is 20 years old. I had read that if he was with us, his parents, he would be served. Most places this was true. I asked someone about this and they were surprised I was asking. I said, we were from Colorado and we have very strict drinking laws and under 21, you don’t even get to take a sip of alcohol. They probably wouldn’t even let you smell it. They were clearly more “relaxed” about that kind of thing in Louisiana.

Nicholas had a martini. I can’t remember which one, but he liked it a lot.

My guys were looking good tonight (except for Zung, who was looking a little goofy).

Nicholas ordered the Grilled Heart of Romaine Caesar Salad.

This is some kind of sashimi. It’s not on the current menu, so it must have been a special.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Zung had the Blackened Shrimp and Grit Cake.

I had the Boudin Balls, which I’m pretty sure are made in heaven. Excuse me! Why are these not readily available in Colorado? I’d like to speak to someone about that and get this grievous oversight corrected.

Sorry, again, for the fuzzy picture. I should have asked Santa for a new camera, because these blurry pictures are clearly from a defective camera and not user error AT ALL.

Boudin balls have sausage and are fried. Enough said.

On to the main courses! I’m not sure what this was, because the delicious fries were so damn distracting! (I have a french fry thing – which you probably know from my previous blog posts).

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This was fish, of some kind. Let’s not get distracted by the details. It was all freaking amazing!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I had the duck. Which was really quite delicious.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

And I would have been thrilled with it. Had I not taken a taste of Patrick’s ribs.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Best. Ribs. Ever. OMG. I’m pretty sure they are illegal in 20 states. Fall off the bone tender. And delicious.

I would have been bereft for not ordering it, had we not ordered this for dessert.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Krisp Kreme bread pudding. This? This is illegal in all other 49 states. OMG! So good. I decided that I needed to try bread pudding wherever it was offered so I could decide who had the best. Let the competition begin!

An awesome meal. A bit of a drive from the French Quarter, but worth it. Don’t let that deter you. Eat here. And order the Boudin Ball. And the ribs. And the Krispy Kreme bread pudding.

Happy, full faces.

Matt, from North Carolina, did a great job as our server. He called us a taxi when we were done. We went back to the hotel.

We had costumes to change into and Bourbon Street to experience!
